The chicken or the egg.
There seemed to be some level of panic about my approach to what is quite a huge project.
‘What will you do first?’
‘How will it work?’
‘Will you start with giving interior students the whole flat?’
Nope, none of these.
I’ll go to the degree shows first and something will come through. I got some looks, similar to the looks I got when I just started saying out loud that I was going to wallpaper the pro vice-chancellor’s office. Some supportive looks, some of deep concern and some sort of awkward, funny-not-funny looks!
But it worked. I arrived at Chelsea and one of the first places I went was the Triangle Gallery, where the BA Graphic Design show was.
I found Molly and Flaneur, and it was perfect. Molly had done these beautiful observations of places, which she then translated into colour palettes, these colour palettes were then the basis for a limited-edition print.
That was it. It was completely obvious. I’d commission her to do exactly the same for the Atterbury flat.
And so I did. And she did.
And that was the seed.
